MPL Launches Uthuru Maritime Services Website to Enhance Northern Region Operations

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has officially launched the Uthuru Maritime Services (UMS) website, a new digital platform designed to provide comprehensive maritime services for the northern region of the Maldives. This initiative aims to streamline information on upcoming services and offer details about agents and services available to the international maritime market.

The launch event was held at MPL’s head office, where CEO Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim emphasized the importance of the new website. He noted that the platform will be a vital hub for information on maritime services in the northern Maldives. Wajeeh also reaffirmed MPL’s dedication to collaborating with various companies to deliver a wide range of services, including international fuel bunkering.

State Trading Organisation (STO) Managing Director Shimad Ibrahim, who also spoke at the event, announced that STO plans to begin offering fuel bunkering services by mid-September. This move is expected to increase foreign currency inflow into the country significantly. Shimad highlighted the importance of this partnership with MPL, noting that STO will provide additional maritime services to develop the sector further.

MPL’s northern operations will include services such as international fuel bunkering, speedboat operations, pilotage, water supply, crew change services, and vessel maintenance. These expanded offerings signal a major boost to the Maldives’ maritime capabilities and are expected to strengthen the region’s role in the international shipping industry.

By launching the UMS website and expanding services in the north, MPL is positioning itself as a key player in maritime development, contributing to both economic growth and international trade.
