Plans are now underway for a significant healthcare expansion in Hulhumale’, as Male’ Group of Hospitals recently announced the development of a new multi-speciality hospital. The proposed facility will be built next to the current Hulhumale’ Hospital and is expected to reach 15 storeys with a capacity of 250 beds.
Addressing Growing Healthcare Needs
The need for additional patient capacity is a priority, as rising numbers of residents and visitors have placed added pressure on Hulhumale's healthcare facilities. The new hospital aims to ease this burden and provide a wider range of medical services. With construction planned adjacent to the current six-storey Hulhumale’ Hospital, the expanded facility will strengthen the regional healthcare infrastructure.
ICU and NICU Units: Meeting Specialized Care Demands
To improve critical care services, plans are already underway to enhance the current Hulhumale' Hospital with ICU (Intensive Care Unit) and NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) facilities. Scheduled for completion before year-end, these specialized units will significantly increase the hospital's ability to treat patients requiring critical and neonatal care. The NICU will offer 14 beds for newborns needing intensive treatment, while the ICU will feature 10 beds to serve patients in need of advanced medical attention.
Expanded Emergency Room and Operating Theaters
Addressing the increased traffic in Hulhumale’s Emergency Room (ER) is another focal point. Currently, the ER has seven beds, but plans are in place to double its capacity to 14 beds. This increase will help manage patient flow and improve emergency response efficiency in the area.
In addition, four new operating theaters are set for completion by the end of the year. These theaters will help expedite surgical procedures, reduce wait times, and enable the hospital to handle a larger volume of surgeries, ultimately enhancing the quality of care.
New Clinics to Reduce Patient Queues
To reduce patient waiting times and streamline general healthcare services, a new General Practice Clinic has been set up in Hulhumale’ Phase 2. This clinic aims to handle routine check-ups, consultations, and other non-emergency services, helping to alleviate patient queues and free up resources in the main hospital for urgent and specialized care.
