About the Role: Sustainability Manager 🌱
The Sustainability Manager at Raffles Maldives Meradhoo will be responsible for integrating Accor and Raffles' sustainability goals into the resort's operations. This role is ideal for someone who has a deep understanding of environmental conservation, strong leadership skills, and a passion for making a difference.
As part of the resort’s management team, you will oversee sustainability initiatives, ensuring that all environmental and social targets are met while preserving local heritage and enhancing the guest experience.
Key Responsibilities ✅
As a Sustainability Manager, your responsibilities will include:
1. Sustainability Strategy & Implementation
- Develop and implement a comprehensive sustainability plan aligned with Accor's Planet 21 and Raffles’ environmental goals.
- Work closely with the resort’s general manager, Accor associates, and the Chief Sustainability Officer to synchronize sustainability objectives.
- Optimize sustainability performance by managing pollution control, waste management, energy consumption, and water conservation initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with local environmental regulations and sustainability certifications, such as Green Globe.
2. Employee & Guest Engagement
- Train staff at all levels on environmental awareness, conservation practices, and eco-friendly operations.
- Foster a sustainability-focused culture among employees, ensuring that every team member contributes to conservation efforts.
- Conduct guest engagement programs to educate visitors about sustainable practices, marine conservation, and the importance of preserving the Maldives’ delicate ecosystem.
3. Marine & Island Conservation Efforts
- Work alongside marine biologists and environmental experts to develop programs for reef restoration, coral transplantation, and biodiversity protection.
- Lead initiatives to protect marine life and ensure the responsible management of the resort’s natural resources.
- Implement sustainable fishing practices and ensure suppliers adhere to ethical and eco-friendly sourcing policies.
4. Community & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Develop partnerships with local authorities, NGOs, environmental agencies, and community organizations to drive positive change.
- Lead corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects to support local education, health, and conservation programs.
- Promote sustainable tourism by working with public bodies to enhance environmental regulations and eco-tourism policies.
5. Reporting & Compliance
- Monitor and report on environmental performance, providing data to internal and external auditors.
- Ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance with sustainability certifications and government regulations.
- Prepare detailed reports on the resort’s sustainability progress, identifying areas for improvement and innovation.
Required Qualifications & Experience 🎓
To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Previous experience in a sustainability role within a luxury hotel or resort.
- BSc or relevant degree in Biology (preferably Marine Biology, Zoology, or Ecology).
- PADI Dive Master or equivalent diving license is required.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to train and motivate a team.
- Knowledge of tropical reef and island ecology is an advantage.
- A highly interactive and people-friendly attitude, with excellent communication skills.
- Passion for conservation and social responsibility.
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
- Understanding of Green Globe certification and sustainability concepts is an added advantage.
- Ability to adapt to island life and work in a remote location.
