Velaa Private Island is seeking motivated candidates for the following position:
- Coral Restoration Intern
This role is ideal for individuals passionate about marine conservation and sustainable hospitality. As a Coral Restoration Intern, you will actively contribute to preserving the Maldives’ unique marine ecosystem while gaining valuable hands-on experience in coral restoration techniques within a luxury resort environment. This position offers exposure to a professional marine team and the opportunity to participate in engaging guest programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Collecting and entering data for coral restoration projects.
- Constructing, monitoring, and maintaining multiple coral nurseries and Biorock structures.
- Transplanting coral colonies to the reef and conducting scientific surveys.
- Assisting the Marine Biologist & Sustainability Manager and Resident Marine Biologist with marine center activities, including the Young Marine Biologist Program at the Kids Club.
- Managing small personal coral restoration projects independently.
- Reporting progress and findings to the Marine Biologist & Sustainability Manager and the Resident Marine Biologist.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Certified Rescue Diver with a minimum of 100 logged dives.
- A degree in marine biology or a related field.
- Previous experience in coral restoration projects is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of marine biology, coral species, and coral restoration techniques.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Passion for marine conservation, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.
