Job Title and Description – Resident Marine Biologist

Planhotel Hospitality Group is looking for an experienced marine biologist to oversee and lead the operations of the Marine Lab at Diamonds Athuruga. This prestigious role involves working closely with the resort’s Marine Research Manager and the biologist team across Planhotel’s Maldives properties.

The Resident Marine Biologist will serve as the primary focal point for all marine-related activities on the island. From managing coral restoration projects to guiding snorkeling excursions, you will be responsible for connecting guests to the beauty and importance of marine ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

As a Resident Marine Biologist, your core duties will include:

  • Overseeing daily Marine Lab operations and supervising interns

  • Leading large-scale coral restoration and marine conservation initiatives

  • Conducting engaging guest presentations, workshops, and in-water activities

  • Guiding daily snorkeling trips in collaboration with the recreation and water sports team

  • Performing reef monitoring and maintaining a scientific database

  • Assisting with ongoing research projects in collaboration with academic partners

  • Creating educational and marketing content that highlights marine life and conservation

  • Promoting environmental awareness among guests and staff through hands-on engagement

Qualifications and Skills Required

To thrive in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Master’s degree in Marine Science or a related field

  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a similar role within a five-star property

  • Solid knowledge of coral reef ecology and Maldives marine species

  • Proven experience in coral restoration and reef rehabilitation techniques

  • Strong scientific foundation: able to plan, collect, analyze, and interpret research data

  • Fluent English communication skills; Italian language proficiency is a plus

  • Physically fit with strong snorkeling and diving skills (Rescue Diver certification preferred)

  • Comfortable living and working in a remote island environment

  • Enthusiastic team player with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Flexible, service-oriented, and passionate about educating others
