Velaa Private Island Maldives is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Engineer to lead the Engineering Department. The successful candidate will ensure that all systems, equipment, and infrastructure across the resort are maintained to the highest standards, reflecting the resort’s commitment to safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
This role requires strong technical expertise, proven leadership, and a proactive approach to maintenance, planning, and innovation. The Chief Engineer will play a crucial part in supporting the Director of Engineering in executing Velaa’s technical vision and maintaining the resort’s reputation for operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
As the Chief Engineer at Velaa Private Island Maldives, you will be responsible for:
- Managing daily operations of the Engineering Department to ensure all systems function efficiently and align with Velaa’s culture and service standards.
- Supporting the Director of Engineering in planning, organizing, and supervising maintenance schedules and technical projects.
- Overseeing maintenance of vessels, diesel generators, HVAC systems, and electrical equipment.
- Managing RO plants, STP systems, and all water networks including fresh, recycled, sewage, irrigation, golf, and hydrant systems.
- Ensuring effective pool and Jacuzzi water treatment operations.
- Monitoring and analyzing performance data using electronic control and measurement systems.
- Maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of critical spare parts and tools.
- Leading power plant, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC teams for peak performance and efficiency.
- Driving energy conservation and sustainability initiatives in line with resort policies.
- Ensuring compliance with local environmental, safety, and operational regulations.
- Promoting a strong health & safety culture through regular risk assessments and proper PPE usage.
- Managing engineering projects from concept to completion, including renovations and capital improvements.
Qualifications and Skills Required
Ideal candidates for this position should meet the following qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role within a luxury resort in the Maldives.
- Strong expertise in marine engine and power generator maintenance.
- Comprehensive knowledge of RO plant and STP operations and maintenance.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and technical tools for project planning and design.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing diverse engineering teams.
- Skilled in preventive and corrective maintenance strategies.
- Strong budget management and cost control skills.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience in project management from concept to completion.
