Job Opening: Marine Biologist 🌊🐠
We are currently looking for a Marine Biologist who is passionate about ocean conservation, marine life education, and environmental sustainability. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic resort environment, enjoys engaging with guests, and is eager to contribute to impactful marine conservation projects.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Marine Biologist at OUTRIGGER Maldives Maafushivaru Resort, your duties will include:
- Conducting marine and island-life biology programs for both guests and team members, enhancing awareness and appreciation of the Maldives' unique ecosystem.
- Leading snorkeling and diving excursions, educating guests about the underwater world and marine species.
- Monitoring and conducting research on coral reef health, marine biodiversity, and environmental changes in collaboration with conservation organizations.
- Organizing and implementing nature conservation projects, such as coral restoration and marine life protection initiatives.
- Providing biological consultancy and environmental guidance to support the resort’s sustainability efforts.
- Assisting in eco-friendly certifications and sustainability reporting, including understanding and implementing EarthCheck concepts.
- Designing educational posters, presentations, and guest materials to promote awareness of marine conservation.
- Collaborating with various resort departments to integrate sustainability efforts into daily operations.
- Engaging with local communities and participating in outreach programs focused on environmental preservation.
Qualifications & Requirements 🎓🌊
To be successful in this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Biology, preferably with a focus on marine biology, zoology, or ecology.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role within a hotel or resort setting.
- Strong snorkeling and scuba diving skills. Holding a PADI certification is a plus.
- Excellent understanding of marine ecosystems and conservation methodologies.
- Experience in data collection, monitoring, and reporting on marine biodiversity and environmental projects.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office for data processing, report writing, and creating educational materials.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A passion for marine conservation and guest engagement, with the ability to educate and inspire people from different backgrounds.
- Experience in using EarthCheck concepts and other sustainability initiatives is an added advantage.
